Ember walked along the grounds on one of the walking paths, bored out of her mind. It had been almost a month since she met her first-ever friend, Dareynn. Since then, he had been helping boost her confidence in herself, and he had been helping her learn to control her "gift".
She tended to mess with him a bit, like preventing the flame on his lighter from showing up when he tried to light a cigarrette. The expression on his face always made her laugh.
In fact, she was just coming from the shed after one of their meetings. It had been a fun one, with the demonic kitten, Scourge, trying to eat Dare's ear.
Humming to herself, she continued walking, enjoying the breeze as it played with her hair. The air was so fresh out here...
Em decided to stop and sit under one of the trees along the path, enjoying the shade. She looked up at the sky and saw the large thunderheads that were slowly creepying towards the asylum. She couldn't wait for the storm.

It was cool out. Not cold, exactly. Cool. The long-sleeved shirt and jeans he wore was plenty to keep him from shivering. His feet were bare; he hadn’t bothered to put on shoes, despite the warden telling him to. He hated the wardens, every single one of them. They all tried to keep him away from Jasey. He needed her just like he needed the drugs—she was vital to his existence. She was his twin, his lover—his other half. Without her, he was nothing.
Thinking about Jasey brought to mind the previous night, when she had sneaked into his room. This wasn’t an unusual occurrence by any means, and the same thing always happened. Eyes closing as he thought about it, Drei’s lips parted slightly, the breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding leaving his body with a quiet sigh. He could almost feel her fingers dancing over his skin, tangling in his hair, tugging him closer… He was lost in the imagined feel of her hips grinding against his, her lips pressed so tightly against his neither of them could breathe if they wanted to. His fingers dug into the grass at his side, eyes squeezing shut as he drew his knees up to his chest.
Head falling to the side, the messy-haired teen let his eyes slide open, his sigh turning from one of wanted passion to disappointment. Jasey wasn’t here; there was no use getting himself riled up if there was nothing he could do about it. But he wanted her. He always did. She was like a drug, really. She’d be with him and they’d do things, and then she would have to go away. He’d be all right for a few hours, but then he’d start to feel her absence. It was like someone had ripped out a part of his soul and periodically put it in and took it out again.
Turning his gaze from the ground to the sky, the teen noticed the dark clouds that were rolling in. Drei hated storms. Having been through a few pretty bad storms, he felt his opinion was justified. Shoving himself to his feet, the boy stood and brushed off his jeans, ready to head inside. He stepped onto the concrete path, goosebumps shooting up his legs and down his arms. When had it gotten so cold? He didn’t think he’d been sitting outside that long.
As he was walking back he spotted an unfamiliar girl by one of the trees. With an apprehensive glance at the sky, Drei decided he should probably advise the girl against staying out beneath the tree. The wardens would complain if they had to go find patients outside during a storm. “Hey,” he said somewhat awkwardly, not entirely sure how the situation was going to go. “You should probably go inside… It’s gonna storm.” He felt stupid for stating the obvious, but maybe this girl wasn’t in here for something like he was; maybe she was here because she was mentally handicapped or something. Granted…she didn’t really look like she was, and most of the people here seemed to be “bad” kids, but…well, you never knew. At least he was trying to help. Jasey would be proud of him for talking to someone without being either forced or conned into doing it.

"I know," Ember answered, sighing. She didn't even notice that the person was someone she didn't know--she no longer jumped when someone new arrived. She had seen him walking out of the corner of her eye, anyway.
She looked over at the new person, finally revealing the burn [the one in the shape of a flame] scar over her left eye. It stretched from her hairline all the way down to the middle of her cheek.
Em studied the new boy with slight interest. She took in every detail. It was only a few moments later that she got bored and looked back at the clouds. She couldn't wait for the storm to arrive. She loved the rain and the feel of the storm. Most of all, she loved it when lightning split the dark sky.
She hummed quietly to herself, then glanced back at the person, wondering why he was still there. Why wouldn't he leave her alone? She just wanted to be left in peace. Then again, he had told her to get inside because of the storm... Had he actually been concerned about her? It felt so unnatural. The only one who had ever been concerned about her was Dareynn.
"You should get indoors, too, you know," she said softly, trying to dismiss him. She just hoped she didn't sound rude.

Drei shifted his weight awkwardly from one foot to the other. If she knew the storm was coming, why was she just sitting there? “…Shouldn’t you head inside, then? You’ll get wet out here. And…what if it’s really bad?” He glanced over his shoulder at the sky nervously, not sure what to make of the situation. Any big, dark cloud sent a shockwave of fear through him.
When he turned back to the girl she was looking back at him, studying him. That just made him more nervous, the toe of his shoe scuffing against the pavement as he shifted nervously. He was relieved when the girl turned away. At least she wasn’t hitting on him; he hated it when girls did that. The only girl Drei needed was Jasey; she was his one and only, forever and always. He depended on her like plants depended on the sun. She was mandatory to his existence. Without her here in this hellhole with him, he probably would have killed himself. It made him feel wanted, having his sister willing to go through such lengths to stay with him. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for her.
“I was heading inside… But…you can’t stay out here.” The part of him that was afraid of the oncoming storm was telling him to keep the girl out of it, too, for her safety.
