Ember didn't bother lighting any of the candles, worried that her curse might get out of control again, instead opting for stripping herself down to the bare essentials--her bra and undies--and wrapping herself in a couple blankets. Before sitting, however, she hung her clothes up to dry by hooking them on a couple of rusty nails in the wall, which had probably been used to hold up tools when the shed was in use.
After that, she sat in the dark, thinking. The blankets were drapped around her like a tent.
She knew what her newfound friend was being forced to do at this very moment, and that made her shiver. She just hoped that asshole warden didn't hurt him too badly. She didn't want to lose him.
Meow?
Daydream suddenly appeared next to her, her kittens following behind her. It was rather surprising that the family had stayed in the shed after all the commotion that had happened, but Ember didn't mind as she reached out and scratched the she-cat behind the ears. The she-cat meowed again before sniffing at the small opening in the blanket. Deciding it was safe, she entered the opening and curled up on Ember's almost-naked lap, the kittens shortly following suit.
Ember winced when Daydream's claws began digging into her thigh; the she-cat was kneading. Sure, it hurt, but she didn't mind. The warmth from the kittens and their mother was much appriciated.
She leaned her head back against the pile of blankets, thinking once again. She thought about the boy, whose name she still had yet to learn. She thought of how he looked in the moonlight after he had taken his shirt off. Once again, she blushed.
Suddenly, she realized that she hadn't told him her name. How could she have forgotten?! Then again... She wasn't one to trust people enough to get to know their name; only their face. Even the people who she was about to trust ended up hurting her. Why should she even bother?
Still...
"H-Hi... I'm E-E-Emberrrr..." she whispered, practicing. Her teeth chattered still, but not as badly as they had on the way back to the shed. "M-My n-name's Emberrrr... Wha-W-What's y-yours...?"
She sighed softly, knowing she sounded stupid. "I-I'll n-n-neverrrrr g-g-get t-this r-r-r-rrrright... W-Why's i-it s-so h-harrrd...?"

Dareynn wiped his mouth as he redid the warden's jeans, not much warmer than he had been before. He hadn't really given the man a choice in what they did, simply giving him the blowjob and calling it good. Standing, the teen didn't bother to wave or say goodbye; he never did. Why should he, when he loathed the man? There was no point in pretending to be friendly. Business was business.
He made his way back to the shed, swearing he could feel the oncomings of a cold. As if his body was eager to prove the feeling, the boy sneezed. His sneezes weren't loud; if anything, he sounded like a cat when he sneezed. As he entered the shed he heard the girl introduce herself as Ember. Thinking she had seen him and addressed the following question to him, the dark-haired teen opened his mouth to answer, only to stop short once he realized that she was talking to herself. He figured he would answer anyway, and save her the trouble of going about this all again. "I'm D-dareynn," he said, forcing his jaw stiff to keep his teeth from rattling as he talked. He noticed the girl's clothes hanging on the wall and was glad she had at least had the sense to remove her wet things. If he was smart, he'd lose his pants, too. But it looked like the girl was using all the blankets, and he wasn't about to take one from her. He would be fine. "You can...take those bla-ankets with you u-up to the...the, uh, facility," he told her, not wanting to make his friend put on wet clothes again and risk hypothermia.
...much like he was doing, actually. But oh well, he was used to being cold. A little while longer wasn't going to kill him. Hopefully.

Ember blinked and jumped, looking towards the doorway. She hadn't expected him back so soon. Her eyes were wide as she stared at him. She couldn't believe he had heard her.
Dareynn... So that's his name... Interesting... Never heard it before...[/i]' she thought. 'Wonder what it means...'
She didn't voice her thoughts outloud, finding the situation a little awkward. For one thing, she was just about completely naked. For another, he was half naked. At least... that's what it looked like in the moonlight.
When he said she could take the blankets with her... Did that mean he didn't want her around? Or was it something else? Was the warden still around?
She couldn't be sure and she definately didn't want to overstay her welcome. Then again... if the warden was still out there... he could and probably would hurt her. She was scared, something she hated admitting, even if it was only to herself.
However, she couldn't just stay here and take up all the blankets... She knew Dareynn was cold, too... What kind of friend was she?
As carefully as she could, without disturbing the cats, she took off the extra blanket and held it out to him. Besides, she didn't need it. The cats were providing plenty of heat. She wouldn't miss the blanket. "H-Here..." Without waiting for an answer, she tossed it in his direction before wrapping the remaining blanket a bit more tighter around her.
The kittens under her blanket began mewing and playing with her toes, causing her to giggle loudly. "S-Stop t-that!" Her complaint did little good as they continued tickling her with their whiskers and soft fur.
Evil little monsters.
Still giggling, Ember looked back at Dareynn. "Y-You... o-okay...?" She was referring to what happened outside with the warden. She couldn't tell if the warden had done anything to him or not.[/size]

The shed was warmer than the outside, which a very good thing. The dark-haired teen let his shirt fall from his hand, not caring where it landed. He half-smiled at the girl, something he didn't do often. He wrapped his arms over his torso, trying to stop the shivers. They were almost painful. He was glad when the girl threw the blanket toward him, though he wasn't sure about taking it until he heard the kittens meowing. They would warm her up.
"Thank you," he quietly, clenching his jaw to keep his teeth from smashing themselves together too bad. He undid the button and the zipper on his jeans before picking up the blanket, wrapping it loosely around his body before sliding out of the wet clothing with a bit of difficulty. Wet clothes were hard enough to get off; when they were wet jeans, it was about three times worse. He did manage to get them off without falling over, however, and kicked them toward his shirt. Wrapping the blanket tighter around his body, the boy sank to the floor as Nightmare came trotting into the shed.
The little black cat sniffed at the wet clothes before meowing, looking at Dareynn like the boy had done something wrong. With an almost disdainful swish of his black tail, the cat was crawling up onto Dareynn's lap, curling up tightly.
"I'm fine," Dareynn answered. And, save for the somewhat bitter taste in his mouth, he was. "It's easy enough to distract him."

Em looked at him and blinked. "So, if you had a laser light, he would chase after it like a cat?" she smirked. "I'd LOVE to watch that." Well, at least she had warmed up enough that her teeth were no longer chattering. That had been getting old.
She hoped her little joke, which she had just blurted out without really thinking, would at least get a smile out of her new friend.
At least the kittens had stopped tickling her, that was always a plus; however, Daydream was kneading again. Evil cat. That hurt.
The kittens, meanwhile, had climbed out of the "tent" and were now playing with each other, wrestling around in the shafts of moonlight. Of course, little Scourge was being crushed under the much larger kittens, and he was NOT happy about it as he meowed angrily, trying to get free.
Ember watched them with a small smile on her face. "Careful, Scourge. Don't take on those bigger than you..." she warned.
Scourge, of course, didn't listen to her as he tackled his older sister, the gray kitten known as Ash. Ash, in turn, turned the tide and sat on him, almost comic-like. It was entertaining to watch. It took a couple minutes, but Scourge finally managed to free himself and barreled his older sister over.
Artemis and Apollo, the white twins, sat side by side, watching their younger siblings while licking their paws. Every once in a while, the wresting kittens would fall against their older siblings, who were then forced to join in the game--not that they didn't mind.
Ember glanced around. "Midnight has given them all evil genes," she grinned, looking for the black cat. She hadn't seen him, but had heard him meow. Then again, he was black, so he blended in with the darkness fairly well. "Evil father. Poor Daydream has enough to put up with." She gently petted the mother cat, who was purring up a storm.

Dareynn shrugged, the blanket rising and falling with the motion. “More of a…scratch him in the right place and he forgets he’s mad kind of thing,” the boy said, leaning back against the wall that was behind him. Nightmare’s heat was slowly spreading through his body, the tiny cat turning out to be quite the heater, one for which Dareynn was very grateful.
He watched the kittens tumbling around, almost feeling sorry for the little black one that Ember called Scourge. The poor creature kept getting flattened beneath his siblings only to wrestle his way out and have it happen again. Dareynn was comfortable, however, and he thought the kitten would be fine alone. It wasn’t like they were hurting one another.
When the girl mentioned “Midnight,” Dareynn raised an eyebrow. “Midnight?” It only took him a second longer to realize she meant Nightmare. As his shivers started to subside, he continued, “Oh. Him. I named him Nightmare.” As if backing up the dark-haired teen, the little black cat let out a trilling meow. Dareynn took that as an agreement. “He’ll answer to Mare, too. It’s just a little shorter.” A shiver ran down his spine, making his entire body quake. Nightmare meowed again, though this was more of an annoyed comment at being shaken.

"Nightmare.... Nightmare and Daydream. Yin and Yang..." Ember commented, grinning slightly. "Guess it's more fitting than "Midnight"." She then looked at the kittens. "The gray one is Ash, the male white one is Apollo and the female white one is Artemis, if that's okay with you. I guess you already know lil Scourge."
The kitten who had just been named let out a loud mew before jumping at his older sister again.
"He's a lil monster... Too brave for his own good..." Em commented softly before yawning. She felt as if she hadn't slept in a week. It sucked. She sighed softly after a while. Tomorrow was NOT going to be a fun day. She was going to receive another "treatment" for her condition in the morning and then another in the afternoon. It happened every other day, each time more painful.
Briefly, she wondered if she should tell Dareynn about the treatments, then thought better of it. It would just be a bad idea.
Ember forced herself to look back at the kittens again, watching them romp around, her eyelids fluttering as she fought to keep them open. She yawned again and within moments, she had been claimed by the darkness of sleep.

Dareynn wasn't quite sure which of the two white kittens was the male and which was the female, but he'd figure it out later. He was just glad she hadn't argued about the name. The little black cat was Nightmare; that's all Dareynn could ever see him as.
"He's got his father's spirit," Dareynn commented, watching the younger version of Nightmare attack his littermate. His hands were barely trembling now, the blanket encasing the warmth Nightmare provided. He noticed that Ember had fallen asleep. Was there much point in trying to keep himself awake? He didn't figure there was, since he was relatively comfortable and would be comfortably warm before long.
He let his eyes close as he slouched sideways, the wall perpendicular to the one he was leaning against catching him. He let himself drift off slowly into unconsciousness, hoping this didn't kill him. And, if it did...well, then he'd have plenty of time to sleep.
