Dareynn wasn't sure what was going on, but the girl wasn't responding. He was getting that nervous feeling in his stomach, like when he hadn't had a cigarette in ages. All twisted up, mixed around, knotted sort of feeling. Icky. Like he was on edge. It wasn't good.
When she cried out he flinched slightly, one hand slowly extending toward her. He didn't want to hurt her. His hand hovered an inch away from her, hesitant to actually touch her. He withdrew his hand quickly when she screamed, eyes widening with panic. His heart started to race, not sure what to do now. She kept screaming, the white cat dashing off to her kittens and hissing.
When the candles he'd lit not too long ago flared up, the boy threw his arms over his head, forcing his body as close to the wooden floor as it would go. Dust, dirt, and the smell of old sex pressed against his face, and the only thing he could think was, 'Oh shit, I'm going to burn to death.' All he could hope was that it would be quick and not quite as painful as he was anticipating it to be.
"Stop," he heard himself all but whimper, fingers knotting tightly in his own hair. It had been a long, long time since he'd been so afraid. After coming to the facility he had forced himself to not be afraid of anything, convincing himself that there was nothing here that could scare him. Well, dying did scare him, apparently. "Please wake up..." He was curled into an impossibly tight ball, his scrawny body easily pulling in on itself. His jacket made him look thicker in the torso and waist than he actually was, all but billowing around him. He didn't like this. What was she seeing?!

Shapes... Shadows... People she didn't know and people she did... All of it made itself know, going in and out of her mind, driving her crazy. Why wouldn't they go away?
She continued to silently scream, no longer having any voice left.
Daydream eventually stopped hissing when the screaming stopped and all around her was silence. Her fur slowly lay flat and her ears twitched. She was sure the danger was over, but...
Everything was too much. There was too much pain. Too much anger. Too much hatred.
Why, oh why, had this happened to her? Why were these memories coming now? Why couldn't they just go away?
The tears continued to fall and her body shook with muffled sobs. Her mouth moved, silently begging for the pain to stop. Her mind slipped into darkness...
Her tears remained, never stopping.
The intensity of the flames went away immediately, leaving the air suddenly... cold, but still smelling of smoke. The remaining candles--over half had been completely... waxed down--flickered quietly and calmly.
Everything was over, now that their "commander" was unconscious.

Dareynn shivered as the cold air returned, the flames driven away. Or extinguished? No, there was still light in the room. They weren't completely out. There was enough light to see by, at least.
The pale boy assumed that the girl was unconscious now, slowly uncurling himself from the ball he'd pulled himself into. "Hey..." This time when he reached forward he set his hand gently--very, very, gently--on the girl's shoulder. "Hey, wake up," he said, his voice cracking slightly.
What if she was dead? She couldn't be dead. This was the first person he'd even remotely connected with. The first person he hadn't wanted to immediately punch. She hadn't offered to fuck him, even after learning that he sold himself. She didn't seem the slightest bit interested. Having a person like that...would he be able to call her a friend? If he were to take the time to think back on it, he'd see that he'd never really had anyone he could call a friend. A few fuck buddies, certainly. Friends? ...no. So there was part of him that desperately hoped the girl would wake.
